The Cottage & Area
Trear Cottage is a traditional stone built Scottish cottage brimming with character, sitting just outside Crinan. It is the ideal place to escape to the countryside, and enjoy a slower pace for a while - lots of easy walks right from the doorstep
On arrival, you walk in to a large dining kitchen with a wonderful Aga range cooker, Belfast sink, hand-crafted solid wood units with stone worktops. Equipped with everything you need to enjoy your stay, it has a fridge freezer, dishwasher, oven, hob and microwave. The living room next door features a tweed sofa and a wood burner, perfect for cosy nights in after days out exploring. At the back of the cottage, the utility area has a washing machine, as well as a WC, and leads to the back door.
Heading upstairs, there are two bedrooms - one double, 1 twin - as well as the family bathroom which has a bath with a shower over it.

Views from all aspects are of the surrounding fields and hills - you might even spot the Highland cows in the field across the road!

The area immediately surrounding the cottage is perfect for walkers, cyclists, kayak/SUP users, and dog walkers. A short walk from the cottage takes you to the banks of the Crinan Canal, offering endless opportunities for long walks and to enjoy the scenery. There are many great walks and hikes from the cottage, and some spectacular views to be had from the tops of the surrounding hills! The cottage is situated between two slipways - ideal for those bringing kayaks/SUPs/boats.
If you look carefully whilst walking along the canal, you might spot the swans with their cygnets (usually May/June time), or even the resident kingfishers!

Polly's Coffee Stop is well worth the walk up the canal - normally situated at Lock 10, she serves brilliant cakes/coffee as well as various breakfast/lunch items (soup, tarts, etc). Check the Facebook page for opening times etc.

We are also a short walk from the Crinan Hotel, as well as the coffee shop (dog friendly).

Within the wider area, we are just not far from Kilmartin. An area steeped in history, the Kilmartin Glen is 'considered to have one of the most important concentrations of Neolithic and Bronze Age remains in Scotland' (VisitScotland, 2024). There are over 350 ancient (150 of those prehistoric) monuments within 6 miles of the village, which include standing stones, cup & ring marked/carved rocks, forts, castles, cairns and stone circles.
The newly refurbished Kilmartin Museum is a must-see, and the attached Glen Bistro makes it ideal for a day trip. The Kilmartin Hotel is one of the most popular restaurants with locals - they are pet-friendly too.

We are near Lochgilphead (which has both a swimming pool, soft play for younger children, and an outdoor play area; and around an hour to Oban - making it very accessible for doing day trips to the many islands, as well as local castles etc.

Dogs are very welcome at Trear Cottage - we believe a family holiday should be available to the whole family!
We do not limit the size/breed of dogs you can bring (within reason), and they are charged at £10 each per week. We just ask that you confirm in advance the number you are bringing; keep them off soft furnishings; and leave the property clean and tidy. Please note that the garden is surrounded by a small hedge, so may not suit larger dogs/those with escaping tendencies.
