The Cottage & The Area

Dunmore Cottage is a pretty, traditional Scottish cottage sitting on the loch shore. Cosy and homely, it is the perfect choice for both couples and small families (especially those wanting to enjoy the peace and quiet, without any close neighbours!).
Sleeping 4 in 2 bedrooms (1 double, 1 twin), it has been tastefully refurbished in recent years to provide comfortable and cosy accommodation.
Set on one level, the master bedroom and living room both enjoy loch views; whilst the kitchen and bedroom 2 look towards the back garden. There are a couple of steps to the door, but once inside everything is on a single level - so it may suit those with limited mobility.
Bedrooms feature some lovely pieces of solid wooden furniture, and luxury quality bedding.
The kitchen is well equipped, with a fridge/freezer, washing machine and dishwasher as well as all the usual utensils/kettle/toaster/microwave. There is a dining area in the corner of the living room, which has comfortable chairs and a sofa, as well as an electric fire for cosy nights in, and a traditional pulley system for drying clothes on.
The shower room is situated to the rear of the property, with a folding shower seat installed alongside grab handles to assist those with limited mobility.
Parking is paved, and sits to the side of the property; and to the rear you'll find a covered patio area - ideal for enjoying the outdoor space even with the sometimes unpredictable Scottish weather!
The cottage is child-friendly, with a travel cot and highchair available (free of charge - we just ask that you thoroughly clean and store it on departure). There is a good supply of kids crockery in the kitchen, as well as various books/games/DVDs which guests are welcome to use.

Pets are very welcome, and are sure to enjoy the outdoor space on offer! The cottage sits surrounded by garden ground, and there is a large exercise are to the side. Please note that it is not fenced. We charge £10 per pet - please bring their bed (and throws to cover the soft furnishings if there is any chance they will jump up).
Across the road, you'll find a path to the shore - ideal for launching kayaks, and those who enjoy wild swimming. Wait until the Islay ferry passes, and you'll even get a couple of decent waves!

Dunmore is a short drive from the pretty fishing village of Tarbert. Tarbert offers a good variety of shops, restaurants and cafes, and hosts various events throughout the season (including the Scottish Series regatta, Seafood Festival and Live at the Loch, to name but a few). Portavadie spa and infinity pool is always a hit with adults and children alike, and is a short ferry ride from Tarbert (on foot). The Waverley Paddle Steamer stops in Tarbert during the summer months, offering the opportunity to take a ride up to Loch Gilp and back.

The cottage is ideally placed for the whole family to explore Argyll, with ferries to Islay, Arran, Gigha and Portavadie all within the local vicinity. The Islay ferry literally passes right in front of the cottage - watch out for the big wave shortly after!
Oban is just over an hour up the road, and offers even more ferry options.
Skipness is also nearby, with the castle, seafood cabin, and smokehouse - whilst the famous Machrihanish/West Port beaches are around 45 mins south, beside Campbeltown (don't forget your surfboard!).
The Kintyre Way zig-zags its way across the peninsula, extending to 100 miles and providing endless walking opportunities.

For those with an interest in the historical sights, the newly refurbished Kilmartin museum and Kilmartin Glen are a 45 minute drive north - this area is considered one of Scotland's richest historical landscapes, with guided walks to see ancient burial sites. Kilberry village is 15 minutes west of the cottage - here you'll find more historical sites, as well as Port Baan Beach and the award-winning Kilberry Inn.
The cottage is not far from Crear wedding venue, so ideal for enjoying a break away (or perhaps your honeymoon!) if you're attending a wedding too.

You'll find some more suggestions of fantastic local walks and places to visit in the cottage folder - be sure to take a look!
